A Super Shake for breakfast is an excellent alternative if you’re pressed for time.

Super Shake

I haven’t met anybody who likes waking up early in the morning, let alone going to the gym (maybe a couple of people), but sometimes it’s the only way to get a workout. If you have to hit the gym before work, you’ll probably have to wake up at 5 o’clock when everybody is sleeping, still in “la la” land.

The Most Important Meal of the Day

I always tell my clients that breakfast is essential for several reasons. For my early morning clients, I want them to have the energy to make it through the workout I planned. That’s why I recommend they have breakfast that adheres to the 5 Habits before they work out.

But wait, if you’ve ever trained with me, then you know that I’ll make you work your butt off. Though working out that intensely so close to breakfast may end with you showing me what you ate and if you actually followed the 5 Habits (which only happened once). And you know me, throwing up is a waste of food.

What’s the Plan?

So you have a training session at 6 o’clock the following day, and you are told that you need to have breakfast before your workout, but you also know that you have a death circuit that morning. You also remember that nauseating feeling you had from your last training session. What do you do?

Do you know that famous phrase? It’s in the title. If you can’t eat it, drink it. This can work wonders in the above situation.

Making yourself a Super Shake before your workout will allow you to have something that isn’t too heavy and easily digestible. You can have it about 30 -45 minutes before your activity and not worry about yakking (a synonym for puking, chunder, doing the technicolor) all over the training floor.

If you’re working with me, you already know about this.

How to Make It

Making a Super Shake can be simple, especially if you know the 5-habits. You can literally go down the list. However, the following steps can help.

  • STEP 1 – Choose a liquid
  • STEP 2 – Choose your protein
  • STEP 3 – Pick a veggie
  • STEP 4 – Pick a fruit
  • STEP 5 – Pick a healthy fat
  • STEP 6 – Pick a topper (Carbs, spices, texture, extra protein)

You take all the ingredients and put them into a blender. Pour it into your favourite tumbler and take your time, drink, and enjoy. To read an in-depth post by Precision Nutrition on how to make a Super Shake go HERE.

Remember, if you can’t eat it, drink it! Yes, you’ve read that already, but redundancy can make it sink in.
